1. COMMUNICATIONS & MARKETING OFFICER

POSITION & KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Executive Director, the Communications & Marketing Officer (CMO) will be accountable for continually keeping EABC in the media spotlight and also for broadening our membership base through recruitment campaigns and through effective marketing of EABC’s work.

JOB REQUIREMENTS

  • National of either Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania or Uganda;
  • Educated to graduate degree level (Masters) with focus on International Economics in combination with Public Relations or Public Relations in combination with International Economics;
  • Relevant experience in a business association, in the Private Sector or in an international organization (at least three years);
  • Proven talent in business writing, i.e. ability to make complex macro-economic and legal issues interesting and intelligible for a non-specialist audience.
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Office) and profound understanding of the web as an interactive work tool;
  • A self-starter and team player with strong interpersonal skills; he/she should be willing to learn on the job;
  • Service attitude which is critical in complying with EABC members’ demands;
  • Ability to network, i.e. ability to establish and maintain close and collaborative working relationships with EABC members and with the media.
  • Expand EABC membership bringing in revenue to the Council

2. INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITIES (SRBO Project)

The East African Business Council (EABC), based in Arusha has successfully positioned itself as the lead institution representing private sector interests at the East African Community. We represent a large spectrum of leading associations and corporations in Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi and Uganda.


Inter nships are now open to graduate students/fresh graduates/PhD candidates in the field of International Economics/ Development or Journalism. This is an ideal opportunity for gaining hands-on experience in the management of an international business association. Interns will focus on Policy analysis & research, PR and member relations.


Candidates should have East African nationality ( Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda). Candidates should have excellent writing and IT skills, ideally also some experience in Web-Design.


Interns will be fully integrated into a small team of professionals and have the opportunity to network with a wide range of institutions. The inter nship is a good basis for a career in multilateral development organisations, international business associations or in business journalism. Inter nships are offered throughout the year for a minimum period of six months. Interns receive a living allowance. Accommodation can be arranged in lodges or in Tanzanian families at a moderate cost.


Arusha is located in northern Tanzania in East Africa at the foot of the scenic Mount Meru and in vicinity of the Kilimanjaro and in close reach of several game parks. Situated at 1200 m (3600 feet) above sea level Arusha has a moderate climate throughout the year. (Details on programme sent on request).

3. SHORT-TERM CONSULTANCIES (ICON Consulting/SRBO Project)

Opportunities for short-term (1-3 months) consultanting assignments exist in the following fields:

•  International Trade/EPA

•  International Labour & Employment policies/legislation

•  Trade & Investment Promotion, e.g. Branding & Marketing of East Africa as an Investment

location

•  Micro- & small enterprises (MSE): interest representation and policy Issues

•  Competitiveness of Industrial sectors in East Africa

•  Association management, eg income-generating member services

•  IT management, especially web design & database management
